Introduction in programming with Scratch at Buhusi

In February 2015, we had a series of classes with students from the highschool „Ion Borcea” in Buhusi (Bacau county). We introduced them in visual programming with Scratch, and they enjoyed our course. The students were happy to learn this new and very interesting programming environment. You can see some pictures on the right side. Scratch is a free desktop and online multimedia authoring tool that can work as a very good programming environment for kids. It can be used by students, scholars, teachers, and parents to easily create games or animations. Starting with Scratch, they will make the next steps to the more advanced world of computer programming. It is easier than any other programming languages, because it is based on pseudo-code. Also, Scratch can be used to create educational animations in math, science (including simulations and visualizations of experiments), social sciences (animated stories), and interactive art and music. Scratch allows students to use event-driven programming with multiple active objects called „sprites”, which are driven by „scripts”.
